Please check out today’s new link: Episodes of “Suaangan: Our Strength.” You won’t regret it!
This is a show aired on APTN (Aboriginal Peoples Television Network) which documents life in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, the northernmost part of the western NWT
The movies are Quicktime files and the quality is very good. I think a good starting point would be “Springtime in the ISR.”
Thanks to producers Dave and Zoe as always!

why are they called Aboriginal People
instead of INDIGINEOUS people??
just curious !!!!!:)
I don’t know really. Here’s the definition form the Oxford:
“aboriginal |ˌabəˈrijənl| adjective (of human races, animals, and plants) inhabiting or existing in a land from the earliest times or from before the arrival of colonists; indigenous.”
I guess it’s just the more common usage..
Interesting question.
When I hear the word “indigenous” used up here, it’s usually to specify “Aboriginal people who are indigenous to the NWT”, as distinct from Aboriginal people from southern Canada.
It does sound a bit redundant, doesn’t it?
Well, I suppose it makes perfect sense. A Canadian aboriginal person can move to Spain and still be aboriginal, without the word “indigenous” applying.
This term is primarily used only in Canada and Australia.
